Free Thinker Jacket Review

The North Face Free Thinker Jacket

The Free Thinker Jacket is inclined by The North Face as their premier backcountry ski and snowboard jacket. It certainly looks the business, but it does it act up in use?

The Free Thinker is super arduous Gore-Tex® XCR® Enduro jacket. The Enduro part of the XCR® caption refers to The North Face’s own beverage skill that allows the Gore-Tex® to be armored up in areas of potential weakness such as the shoulders.

Any of the zips not cloistered with storm flaps are impermeable and bonded which as well as giving a high bank of protection also gives the jacket its different style.

The impermeable zips include the main abdomen zip, two acceptable chest pockets and the underarm venting zips. There are two additional acceptable zipped pockets (protected with storm flaps) on the left arm, which are perfect for the new classmates of automatic lift passes.

Internally, the jacket has two large stretch mesh pockets which are designed for your goggles and a mobile phone / MP3 player. I found I can fit a walkie-talkie inside what´s more of the pockets and as one is zippered and the other is open at the top, they are pretty versatile.

Under each arm are two large double impermeable zips for venting the jacket. The zips are again impermeable and allow the jacket to ‘breathe’ when I was slogging up hill.

The home snow skirt is elasticated and fitted me well. However, it isn’t adjustable, so it would be distinction checking that you can get it closefisted enough to keep out the snow.

The integrated jacket includes a RECCO® reflector that can pick up the RECCO® detection system that is used in most resorts to search for hidden avalanche victims.

TNF describe the hood as a ‘Drop Hood’ but it was the big disappointment for me. Courtesy of some clever design the basting pattern In the hood allows it to drop down (behind your head) folding almost flat alongside your body. However, when affecting actually fast I can feel the wind choice at the hood, when dipping over in powder it brimming with snow and when ducking below twigs I apprehensive that it would get caught. In my advice a completely separable (or roll-a-way) hood is an absolute must on a serious ski / snowboard jacket and I’m aghast that the Free Thinker doesn’t have one.

The only positive affair I can say about the hood is that although it isn’t wired it is very adjustable and I found it to be surprisingly effective when I wore the jacket in heavy rain.

I’ve had more comments from people about how stylish this jacket looks than any other jacket I’ve worn recently. It certainly goes to show that TNF go on to make highly appetizing items of apparel that look great.

The Free Thinker is almost a Almighty mountain sports jacket but in my advice has been compromised by the lack of removable hood

Use it as a bandana: This can look good on a casual weekend when harmonizing with jeans and a jean jacket. It’s a look that combines cowgirl with the catwalk of Paris. This force be an annex time to use a color that matches with the shirt you’re wearing anesthetized your jean cover or (if your shirt is white) decide a bold blue or red.

Fold it into a strip and tie it about your neck: This is a great look if you are trying to dress up your jeans. Also, women who have longer necks or are self animate about a very skinny neck or a larger adam’s apple can wear this very appropriately. Don’t decide a color that is too bright, pick a subdued color that coordinates with the main color that you’re wearing. This will help your scarf to come into view as part of your agency and will seem like it blends in.

Tied like a tie about your neck: This great look is very annex for the bookkeeping or for semi-formal occasions. A great looking scarf to get for this use is one that has its main color as your shirt and a extra color in the blueprint that goes well with your entire outfit.
